Today, Faith and I conducted a STEM workshop with Ms. Caitlyn Ro’s class at International Christian School (ICS), and the experience was truly memorable. Serving the young kids in my school community brought me back to the times when I was once part of that classroom. The energy, creativity, and curiosity of the kids brought an undeniable warmth to the day.
The workshop we conducted centered around bridge engineering. We challenged the children to build the strongest bridge possible using only a piece of paper and two cups, further engaging them by making it a competition to see whose bridge could hold the most coins. We explained that triangles are the strongest shapes in bridge design and demonstrated ways to fold the paper so that the bridge design could be overall improved and strengthened.
As the workshop progressed, it was amazing to witness the kids' problem-solving skills in action as they redesigned their bridges and discovered new techniques.
Reflecting on the day, I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with such bright and cheerful children. I look forward to hosting more workshops like this one in the future, where I can continue to inspire the next generation of STEM enthusiasts.
